Prime Video Unveils Official Art for The Wheel of Time Season 2

On 12 July 2023, Prime Video unveiled its official art for The Wheel of Time Season 2. Just over a month later, on 16 August 2023, new character posters were released. The set of images fuels intrigue for the show’s second chapter and excitement is brewing.

Marketing for the show has been muted due to the strikes by SAG-AFTRA and WGA, but the production is pushing the boat out in imaginative ways nonetheless. You can view all the artistic images here in preparation for the highly anticipated second season.

Season 2 of the Amazon Original series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide on 1 September 2023. Now is the perfect time to subscribe!

Well, here it is. The poster that you should be seeing on billboards and banners galore in the next few weeks evokes the serious tone we can expect from the second season. Expect a darker plot and some tense character moments.

Moiraine Sedai (Rosamund Pike) is front and center of an ensemble of the main characters. The background features a battle and rocky mountains.

Note the blue weaves around Nynaeve and Egwene and the orange strands about Rand. These suggest the show is moving away from the white threads of the One Power used in Season 1 and will inject color into the sorcery in Season 2. In The Wheel of Time, magic uses the elements of Air, Earth, Fire, Water, and Spirit, so it makes sense to distinguish between them.

Front and center is Rosamund Pike’s Moiraine Damodred, a clear statement that she is still very much the star of the coming season. She has a knife (not Mat’s) in her hand, perhaps as she remains unable to channel. Lan reaching for his broadsword is more in character. A battle rages in the background, with Shienaran soldiers and Seanchan spottable.

Use the comments section below this post to let me know your thoughts on the official art for The Wheel of Time Season 2. It’s packed with possible easter eggs, so feel free to speculate.

The Wheel of Time Season 2 Character Posters

Our characters are paired up in the 7 posters published courtesy of Prime Video, which only makes the fires of speculation burn more wildly. They have a large orb in common though its color varies. This may be to represent Cairhien, whose flag features a rising sun. The city will be visited by several of these character in Season 2.

However, circles are seen as a symbol of infinity in art, with neither beginnings nor ends, and fans of the series will know the importance of that concept. They look cool, whichever way you spin them, and the colors used are striking.

The initiated will see the Ajah recognition for Moiraine and Liandrin with the blue and red backgrounds. The pastels could also signify the various elements of the One Power – air, earth, fire, water, and spirit.

As with the main poster, there is lots to look for and that fills me with good vibes for the journey ahead. At the base of each poster is a battle scene beneath a line of mountains. The season will climax with a huge battle so we get a taste of the action in these graphics.

Lan and Moiraine

Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike), and her Warder, Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney) will face personal challenges this season. Moiraine has lost her magical abilities and her bond with Lan has been disconnected. Both will struggle to adjust to their new relationship in Season 2.

Elayne and Egwene

Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden) is now an Aes Sedai-in-training and will probably befriend her classmate, Elayne Trakand (Ceara Coveney). This new character is the daughter heir of Andor (Two Rivers falls within this realm) and she is also beginning her magical journey in the White Tower.

Seeing Elayne on our screens is one of the most eagerly anticipated introductions. She is amongst many other new arrivals slated for Season 2.

Min Farshaw and Mat Cauthon

Seeing Min Farshaw (Kae Alexander) and Mat Cauthon (Dónal Finn) paired up probably puts both characters in Tar Valon when the season opens. We know Min was an evacuee from Fal Dara and has been to the Aes Sedai’s city before, and Mat doesn’t have many destinations available to him after balking at the Waygate in Season 1.

Mat will endure a journey of self-discovery this season, and I am excited to see what bartender Min is given to do in the TV adaptation. She can see glimpses of the Pattern that show her the future, but why is the side of her head shaved? Watch and find out.

Liandrin and Nynaeve

Having Nynaeve al’Meara (Zoë Robins), the strong-willed Wisdom from Two Rivers, together with Liandrin Guirale (Kate Fleetwood), a ruthless Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah, is a bold move and perfect.

These two promise explosive conflict, pitting determination against brutal connivance, and their scenes together will sizzle. Will Liandrin want to help Nynaeve achieve her potential, or will her ambition and cruel envy drive a wedge between them? Whatever happens, Nynaeve will brook no nonsense.

Aviendha and Perrin

Another newcomer is Aviendha (Ayoola Smart), an Aiel Maiden of the Spear. I am sure her ferocity and deep-rooted loyalty will win the hearts of viewers. Our exposure to the Aiel has been kept veiled in the build-up, but they can be the best thing to happen to this TV series going forward. Will they meet their toh?

An Aviendha encounter with Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) can only confuse the blacksmith’s sensibilities more. He will continue to struggle with his identity outside of Two Rivers in Season 2, and discover more than just the Aiel in this world.

Ishamael and High Lady Suroth

Prime Video has gone so far as to name Ishamael (Fares Fares) in the release of these character posters. They describe him as “one of the Forsaken and the human embodiment of the Dark One’s evil”. He will continue to be the show’s lead antagonist though rivaled by the invading Seanchan army.

High Lady Suroth (Karima McAdams) is an imposing Seanchan noblewoman from their distant land. We have seen her interact with Ishamael in the official trailer and I’m curious to see what plans the show has for this pairing.

Rand and Selene

Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) is the Dragon Reborn and will try to survive independently to protect his friends since he is destined to go mad. However, he will find a connection with Selene (Natasha O’Keeffe) in Season 2. She is billed as an innkeeper from Cairhien. Ahem.

This plotline will keep you on the edge of your seats as The Wheel of Time really starts to heat up in Season 2. The journey begins on 1 September 2023.

A World of Fantasy and Adventure

The Wheel of Time TV series is based on the beloved Robert Jordan fantasy series of the same name. It takes viewers on a thrilling journey through a richly imagined world.

We follow Rand al’Thor (played by Josha Stradowski, Gran Turismo) as he discovers his destiny as the Dragon Reborn—a legendary figure tasked with either saving or shattering the world. Battling madness and the relentless pursuit of the Dark One, Rand finds himself protected by a formidable army of powerful women.

As the Last Battle looms, the forces of evil rise once more, forcing the young friends from the Two Rivers to face new and ancient threats across the globe. With their guide powerless to assist, they must seek strength within themselves, their bond, and the realms of light and darkness.

A Stellar Cast

The Wheel of Time boasts an exceptional cast, including Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, I Care a Lot) as Moiraine Damodred, Daniel Henney (Criminal Minds) as Lan Mandragoran, Zoë Robins (Power Rangers Ninja Steel) as Nynaeve al’Meara, Madeleine Madden (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Egwene al’Vere, Marcus Rutherford (Obey) as Perrin Aybara, Dónal Finn (Rogue Heroes) as Mat Cauthon, and Ceara Coveney (Young Wallander) as Elayne Trakand.

Behind the Scenes

The Wheel of Time has been adapted for television by executive producer and showrunner Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hemlock Grove).

Joining him as executive producers are Larry Mondragon, Rick Selvage of iwot productions (Winter Dragon), Ted Field of Radar Pictures (Jumanji: The Next Level, Winter Dragon), Mike Weber (Jumanji: The Next Level, Beirut), Darren Lemke (Shazam!, Goosebumps, Winter Dragon), Marigo Kehoe (Outlander, The Crown), Justine Juel Gillmer (The Survivor, Halo), Sanaa Hamri (Empire, Lovestruck), and Amanda Kate Shuman (The Blacklist).

Rosamund Pike also serves as co-executive producer, while Harriet McDougal, Brandon Sanderson, and Lauren Selig contribute as consulting producers. This captivating series is a co-production between Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television.
