A World of Dreams

Looking back, I was utterly consumed by the whirlwind of adventure Robert Jordan masterfully creates in The Dragon Reborn. The series had me racing through its pages by this point, like an eager greyhound pursuing a trailblazing hare, each twist and turn in the story propelling me forward with unbridled excitement.

The People of the Dragon revelation inspired me the most, grabbing my imagination like the hound had caught its muse. It was a pivotal moment, and the Aiel, with their mysterious culture and fierce warrior ethos, added a rich layer to the story that I found absolutely enthralling.

Mat’s escapades of luck, foolhardiness, and chicanery were mindblowing to a younger version of me. The exchanges with Galad and Gawyn in the Warder’s training yard, his deft wit, and his discoveries in Caemlyn made him my favorite character by far. His involvement in the climax is sheer genius!

Perrin’s journey, including interactions with Gaul and Noam and complex dynamics with Moiraine, was another thread that kept me hooked. The exploits of the Power Girls – Egwene, Elayne, and Nynaeve – were yet another highlight, their set pieces executed brilliantly by Robert Jordan. I immensely enjoyed their time in the White Tower and Tear.

The introduction of Darkhounds brought a tingling sense of fear, and they’re still my second favorite Shadowspawn after the Draghkar (who could do with some of Mat’s luck). Faile irked me, and I think she was meant to, and I’ve never truly recovered from those initial impressions. It’s another testament to Robert Jordan’s skill in crafting these characters.

The Dragon Reborn opened a world of literary dreams for me as a young adult. The vast and fascinating world presented by the book opened up more itches for epic fantasy than it satisfyingly scratched. My pores were bleeding with excitement for the next installment, eager to dive deeper into the wonders Robert Jordan masterfully weaves.

I highly recommend you soothe your cravings for sensational fantasy, and these early books in The Wheel of Time series are pulsating works of fiction you’ll remember when you wake. Keep reading for more insights and paths to a shared experience.

The Dragon Reborn Summary

Our heroes embark on separate but interwoven journeys in The Dragon Reborn before all paths converge on the Stone of Tear and an epic finale. The novel opens with Rand’s departure into the night from the Mountains of Mist, leading Moiraine, Perrin, and others on a frantic pursuit marked by eerie signs and supernatural occurrences.

Perrin grapples with his wolfish abilities, encounters another like him, and makes discoveries in wolf dreams. Meanwhile, in Tar Valon, Egwene, Elayne, and Nynaeve face the harsh realities of Aes Sedai politics. Tasked secretly by the Amyrlin Seat to hunt the treacherous Black Ajah, they find themselves in peril from unseen foes, and Egwene receives a gift that will help her access Tel’aran’rhiod, the World of Dreams.

Mat, freed from the malignant influence of the Shadar Logoth dagger and suddenly blessed with good fortune, is thrust into a whirlwind of danger and intrigue. His journey to Caemlyn is fraught with Darkfriends, chance encounters, and revelations, leading him to a fateful encounter with an old friend.

As the plot weaves through cities like Illian and Tear, we’re introduced to the enigmatic Aiel, a warrior people with hidden connections. Moiraine’s group, including the stubborn yet valiant Perrin, find themselves confronting Darkhounds and uncovering plots by the malevolent Forsaken. They are joined by an ambitious new companion.

In Tear, destinies converge. Egwene, Elayne, Nynaeve, Mat, and Perrin end up inside the Stone of Tear. Their paths crisscross with that of the Aiel as Rand’s quest for the powerful sa’angreal, Callandor, reaches its climax.

The novel culminates in a breathtaking finale where Rand faces formidable foes, and the prophecy of the Dragon Reborn takes a dramatic turn, reshaping the world’s destiny. Amidst the chaos, friendships are tested, allegiances are formed, and the fabric of reality is forever altered.
