Rosamund Pike
Born in Hammersmith, London, Rosamund Pike isn’t just a world-famous actor. She’s also thrown her dramatic weight behind several audiobook projects.

The Wheel of Time
The actor stars as Moiraine Sedai in Prime Video’s adaptation of The Wheel of Time and is a producer for the show. She has also made audiobook recordings for the first four novels in Robert Jordan’s fantasy series.
Rosamund Pike’s reading of The Eye of the World, explored in Season 1 of the TV adaptation, has been available for a while now. The follow-up, The Great Hunt, adapted in Season 2 of the show, was released in August 2022. Her versions of the third and fourth books, The Dragon Reborn and The Shadow Rising, became available in June 2023 and September 2024, respectively. Will Rosamund Pike go on to narrate The Fires of Heaven as well? Time will tell, but it’s looking more and more likely.
I’ve listened to Rosamund Pike’s narrations for The Eye of the World and The Great Hunt through my Audible subscription. She gives an enchanting rendition of the books and clearly enjoys her narration. The actor uses all the linguistic skills at her disposal—eloquent and clear pronunciation, deliberate pacing, and an articulation of the vocabulary that is reminiscent of her Moiraine Sedai portrayal—and brings brevity to The Wheel of Time series. It’s genuinely an effort to stop listening.
Acting Chops
Rosamund Pike is a widely known and respected actor and narrator. She’s a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award winner and nominated for an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. I have high praise for the actor’s performance as Moiraine Damodred in The Wheel of Time TV series, but of course, she’s also an accomplished movie star.
Film credits include Pride and Prejudice (2005), An Education (2009), Made In Dagenham (2010), Jack Reacher (2012), The World’s End (2013), Gone Girl (2014), A United Kingdom (2016), A Private War (2018), Beirut (2018), and I Care A Lot (2020).
Rosamund Pike Audiobooks for The Wheel of Time
I’ve provided links below for the individual audiobooks. You can also obtain them for 1 Audible credit. If you’re an Audible subscriber, you receive 1 credit each month.
The Eye of the World
When the village of Emond’s Field is attacked by Shadowspawn (creatures of the Dark One), the lives of Rand al’Thor and his friends are changed forever. They are taken under the wing of a powerful woman who can wield magic, an Aes Sedai by the name of Moiraine.
Moiraine is on her own mission: to find a man whose rebirth was Foretold twenty years ago—a man who is the Dragon Reborn, a prophesized hero who will save the world or destroy it.
The Eye of the World was written by Robert Jordan and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook.
The Great Hunt
The Great Hunt for the Horn of Valere is called, and adventurers from across the Westlands declare their plans to search for it. Rand al’Thor and his companions know the truth of the matter though. The legendary horn, which will summon dead heroes to follow whoever sounds it, has already been found.
However, it is stolen by Darkfriends during a Trolloc attack on the borderland city of Fal Dara. The hunt to retrieve the horn ensues but is fraught with danger. The powerful Forsaken are free of their prison, and a forgotten force is invading from across the Aryth Ocean. What hope is there for the Light?
The Great Hunt was written by Robert Jordan and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook.
The Dragon Reborn
The Dragon Reborn has proclaimed himself and intends to see the prophecies of the Dragon fulfilled. The stakes are high, and there’s no telling if he’ll be ready in time to face the Dark One at the Last Battle.
Rand al’Thor travels alone to the nation of Tear, hoping to claim “the sword that is not a sword” from its impregnable stone fortress. Moiraine and her party are in pursuit, encountering Darkhounds on the way. The Forsaken have taken root in the Westlands, and the challenges facing the Dragon are his hardest yet.
The Dragon Reborn was written by Robert Jordan and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook.
The Shadow Rising
Rand ventures to the Aiel Waste to prove himself to the warrior clans, while Perrin returns home to prevent the Whitecloaks from causing havoc in the Two Rivers. However, Padan Fain has heinous plans, and soon the Wolfbrother finds himself protecting all he loves in Emond’s Field.
The secrets of Rhuidean dramatically change Mat’s future and bring painful history back to the surface. Rand must prove himself and stave off madness while the Forsaken plot against him in the shadows. Meanwhile, in the White Tower, Min sees murder, and the upheaval there is the most frightening of all.
The Shadow Rising was written by Robert Jordan and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook.
Other Rosamund Pike Audiobooks
I’ve provided links below for Rosamund Pike’s audiobooks for other publications. I believe this to be a complete list, so please let me know if it’s not. The audiobooks can also be obtained through Audible.
The Magician’s Apprentice
The Magician’s Apprentice is another fantasy that could interest The Wheel of Time fans.
Tessia is an assistant to her father, the village healer, though her mother would prefer that she find a husband. Tessia’s life takes a dramatic turn when she discovers a natural ability to use magic. She finds herself apprenticed to the local magician and is about to discover the perils of magic. War is brewing, and magicians are divided, leading to an act of sorcery so severe that its effects will be felt for centuries.
The Magician’s Apprentice was written by Trudi Canavan and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook.
“If your appearance is all people see, they have no respect for your mind.”
Pride and Prejudice (Audible Exclusive Production)
Revisiting Jane Austen’s classic after playing the older Bennet sister in the film adaptation, Rosamund Pike reads Pride and Prejudice.
Against the repressive backdrop of 19th-century England, the Bennet sisters discover love and the lessons of poor judgment. This is a thematically triumphant novel that still has moral significance today.
Pride and Prejudice was written by Jane Austen and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook.
“A single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.”
Sense and Sensibility (Audible Exclusive Production)
When their father leaves all his wealth to his son, the young Dashwood sisters are destitute and homeless. Elinor, who is sensible, and Marianne, who is more emotionally impulsive, find a new home with a distant relative. They experience romance, love, and heartbreak.
The book (which was published anonymously in three volumes) is a satire of sentimental novels that were popular in the late 18th / early 19th centuries.
Sense and Sensibility was Jane Austen’s first published novel. Rosamund Pike reads it for the audiobook.
“A person and face, of strong, natural, sterling insignificance, though adorned in the first style of fashion.”
The Spy Who Loved Me
Uniquely told from the point of view of a woman who needs James Bond’s help, The Spy Who Loved Me is still a typical 007 story with plenty of action and romance. It features two heinous villains who try to frame Vivienne Michel for the burning down of a motel she’s working at and ends with a dramatic shootout.
The Spy Who Loved Me was written by Ian Fleming and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook. It includes a bonus interview with the narrator.
“Only two weeks later we were lovers. It was somehow inevitable.”
A Slow Fire Burning
From the author of The Girl on the Train, A Slow Fire Burning is a Sunday Times number one best seller. A young man is murdered on a London boat, and three damaged women become the main suspects. However, the truth is far more complicated than detectives think.
The book explores mental illness, age, and betrayal with a complex, tense plot that never lets you go. Suspense is maintained to the very end, and this audiobook thriller is a compelling listen that will undoubtedly shock you.
A Slow Fire Burning was written by Paula Hawkins and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook.
“Everything is material. And comedy equals tragedy plus time. Isn’t that how it goes?”
The Bolter
This is the true story of Lady Idina Sackville, a unique but tragic aristocrat who grew up in the early 20th century. Hers is a life of scandal.
Divorced by five husbands before age 63, Idina was known as “the Bolter,” and her great-granddaughter Frances Osborne tells her biography. The Bolter’s life is a shocking but brilliant read, sauced with promiscuity, drugs, and alcohol.
It’s a sad story when all is said and done, but Lady Idina Sackville earns her notoriety.
The Bolter was written by Frances Osborne and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook.
“Not conventionally beautiful, on account of a “shotaway chin,” she could nonetheless “whistle a chap off a branch.” After sunset, she usually did.”
Restless
William Boyd tells this espionage story in the first and third person and changes between time periods.
Ruth’s mother, Sally, is not the English gentlewoman people think she is. In fact, she’s Russian and a former spy for the British Secret Service. In truth, Sally, or Eva, needs Ruth’s help for one final assignment.
Restless was written by William Boyd and read by Rosamund Pike for the audiobook.
“People lead their real, most interesting lives under cover of secrecy.”
The Hours (Dramatization for BBC Radio 4)
This is BBC Radio 4’s full-cast dramatization of Michael Cunningham’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Hours, adapted for radio by Frances Byrnes.
It is about three women living in different places and eras who are connected by a love for Virginia Woolf’s novel, Mrs. Dalloway. Their social rituals entwine them, and they share similar thoughts and experiences. The drama explores themes of love, friendship, loss, loneliness, guilt, bisexuality, domestic tension, and storytelling.
Frances Byrnes adapted The Hours for radio and directed it with Judith Kampfner (who also produces) and Polly Thomas. The Hours stars Fenella Woolgar, Rosamund Pike, and Teresa Gallagher.
“There are still the hours, aren’t there? One and then another, and you get through that one and then, my god, there’s another.”
