About Towers of Midnight

Towers of Midnight, co-authored by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, is the thirteenth captivating installment in Jordan’s renowned fantasy series, The Wheel of Time. In its 932 story pages (2021 Orbit paperback edition), the narrative weaves a tale of unraveling destinies and poignant reunions.

The Seanchan launch an assault on Tar Valon, Logain and Pevara find themselves entangled in a desperate escape from the clutches of the Black Tower, and Nynaeve tries to heal madness. Aviendha experiences a profound epiphany, Rand al’Thor unveils a daring plan concerning the seals that secure the Dark One’s prison, and Egwene faces a climactic confrontation with Mesaana. Perrin forges a war hammer, and the Blight unleashes a horde of Shadowspawn.

Yet, amidst this mounting chaos, the most compelling stories in Towers of Midnight belong to Mat Cauthon. First, he squares off against the seemingly invincible gholam in Caemlyn and then embarks on a daring rescue mission, venturing into the mysterious lair of the Snakes and Foxes.

Towers of Midnight had a preliminary name of Shifting Winds, which was changed before the book’s publication in 2010. It is the penultimate book of The Wheel of Time and adds to the epic scope of the series.

Reading Age

Towers of Midnight is aimed at a young adult audience but can also be enjoyed much later in life. The Wheel of Time novels are enduring, and the important thing is to read them in this lifetime, so don’t hold back if you’re past your prime. You’ll be glad of the decision.

Reading Order

Towers of Midnight should be read straight after The Gathering Storm and before you start on the next book in the series, the concluding A Memory of Light.
