A Captivating Read: The Path of Daggers Paperbacks

  • by

The Path of Daggers paperback, Orbit's September 2021 edition. The cover depicts the portcullis gate of a city wall, and the choppy water that rolls against it.

Some regard The Wheel of Time’s eighth installment as a transitional novel. Others claim the series veers off course at this point. I believe it to be an essential read and one that lays the groundwork for events Robert Jordan executes with precision later in the series. If you share my enthusiasm for the series as a whole, you won’t be disappointed by The Path of Daggers paperback.

Rand faces catastrophes that may break him entirely. The simmering tension on the page will make you worry the Pattern has turned against its Chosen One. Every choice is perilous in a world where politics and power are as treacherous as any Dreadlord. Though Mat is absent, Robert Jordan intensifies Elayne’s character arc, making her integral to the story as she sets the stage for her role in the series’ conclusion. The narrative becomes engrossing, tense, and absolutely crucial to the overarching plot.

Selecting your preferred paperback edition from this post will reveal much more. Choose from five different retailers and ride the waves of destiny once again. Your heroes need you now more than ever because, in this world, there are more than mere bumps on the road.

About The Path of Daggers

The Path of Daggers was written by Robert Jordan and is the eighth novel in his captivating fantasy saga, The Wheel of Time. It is the shortest book in the main series at 222,842 words (Source: A Wheel of Time Wiki).

As the unnatural heat persists, the Light’s chance to wrest control of the weather from the Dark One hinges on the successful use of the Bowl of the Winds ter’angreal. Rand and his Asha’man show signs of the madness that afflicts all men who can channel, and those loyal to the Dragon are concerned. As trust weakens, the threat of betrayal is ever-present.

In Andor, the need for a queen is pressing, and Elayne Trakand realizes the urgency of staking her claim. Meanwhile, Perrin sets out to temper the Prophet in Ghealdan, while the Dragon Reborn focuses on the Seanchan. As the saying goes, “On the heights, all paths are paved with daggers.”

The Path of Daggers was first published in 1998 and was the first Wheel of Time book to become a New York Times #1 Best Seller. It wouldn’t be the last.

Reading Age

The Path of Daggers is fantastic for young adult readers aged 14 to 17 and serves an adult audience, too. Books 1 to 7 are required reading to fully enjoy this novel.

Reading Order

The Path of Daggers is the follow-up to A Crown of Swords, and you should read that first. The next book in the series is Winter’s Heart, which I think you’ll love.

Book Spiel (Spanish Edition)

El Camino De Dagas, the Spanish edition of A Crown of Swords, uses this intriguing book spiel, translated for your enjoyment:

“While Elayne and Nynaeve, with the help of Windfinders and the Kin, set the Bowl of the Winds into motion, Perrin is in Ghealdan to get Queen Alliandre to publicly support the Dragon Reborn.

Rand continues in Illian, trying to pacify the country, when he receives the news that the Shaido are waiting for the chaos caused by the Dragon’s Sworn. The long-awaited climate change, brought about by the Bowl of the Winds, causes sudden temperature changes that make it difficult to move troops.

Therefore, Rand decides to face the Seanchan on the coasts of Illian, in order to stop the advance of the invading army. But Rand will not only have to fight the enemy.”
